Communal Bin Consultation – Update on questionnaire and meetings

The Council has today circulated a letter to all residents confirming that the date for return of the consultation questionnaire has been extended until Sunday, 18th September. If you’ve not done so already, we would urge you to complete either the paper questionnaire or to go to www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/communalrecycling and have your say.

Cityclean have said that they will no longer collect rubbish from each house as they do currently.

Their two proposals are:
– a black bag collection where each resident will be responsible for putting their own rubbish out on the street each week
Or
– communal rubbish and recycling bins placed around the Square and Crescent.

The FOPA committee rejects the first option as we feel it’s unworkable. If we have to move to communal bins then our absolute aim is to influence Cityclean to put in fewer bins which are not at the garden entrances or outside people’s homes, and do not compromise the look of the Square or Crescent and its listed status.

There are three meetings coming up where residents can express their views either to the Council and Cityclean or to our local councillor.
